HAT Projects was invited to submit proposals for the exhibition design for British Design 1948-2012, the V&A Museum's major exhibition for the Olympic year. Our shortlisted concept for the 1300m2 exhibition was for three zones with very different ambiences and experiences, leading from a reinterpreted archive of treasures, through a series of 'studios', to a tongue-in-cheek version of the early 2000s design office which reveals the usually hidden scale and structure of the magnificent final gallery. The concept was immersive and fresh, creating moments of surprise to leaven the experience of visiting such a major exhibition.
