We are designing the first part of the new Tendring Colchester Borders Garden Community that will be built - Gateway Place. At the entrance to the new community from the A133, it will include local services and shops, transport facilities, public space for markets and events, and units for workshop-based businesses as well as small studios and offices, a nursery and a cafe pavilion next to a new linear park.
Gateway Place will be a landmark in the development of the new Garden Community. It is highly unusual and bold for the first built structures to create a public programme and community facilities rather than private homes. As such the ambition for Gateway Place is high - it will be a physical landmark and showcase the regenerative ethos of the new community as a whole. We are exploring a range of low-carbon materials including hempcrete, lime render and natural stone, alongside sedum roofs and extensive PV panels.
Gateway Place will form part of the detailed component of the hybrid planning application for the whole of the 7,500 home community for which Latimer are the master developer. We have also developed the Cultural Strategy for the community as a whole.
