HAT Projects has a particular interest in rural development and planning. This project was a research investigation of a new approach to village planning, based around transport and energy infrastructure.
Railway stations are frequently located outside or on the fringes of existing communities, but developing these locations runs counter to the presumption against 'greenfield' development. This proposal examined the potential for intensive development of such a location as a zero-carbon community - a 21st century demesne - promoting self-build, small businesses and a close relationship to the rural landscape pattern.
