In many respects this is the English equivalent of the $20,000 house - a modest home for a low-income family, responsive to local vernacular, prototypical rather than bespoke, yet with joy and generosity within. In this case, a hearth with an expressed chimney and skylight channels light and warmth into a well-proportioned living space.
